Of Mice and Men
The book I read for this project was Of Mice and Men.  John Steinback was the author of this book and did a very good job.  In the book there are two main characters, George and Lennie.  George is an older man and is very smart. He is all about being better than just the average ranch man.  Lennie however is not like George because he is very dumb and unaware.  Lennie is very big and tall but acts as if he a little kid.  George and Lennie are two farm workers who travel around the country and work on different farms and at the end of the month they go into town and spend their month earnings.  George and Lennie have a different plan.  They dream of one day getting enough money to go and buy their own place.  When they are at a new farm they finally get the chance to get their own place with the help of a friend.  With only a month left to work Lennie accidently breaks the neck of one of the farmer’s wife.  Lennie runs away and all the men from the farm go on the hunt for him.  When George finally finds Lennie his sits down next to him and Lennie is nervous.  George tell Lennie how everything is going to be okay and how they are going to go and get their land right now.  However Lennie is unaware that George is holding a gun up to the back of his head.  George shoots Lennie because he is causing too much trouble and if it weren’t George, it would be one of the ranch men.
Personally I really enjoyed this book.  I liked how the author went into depth with the characters so it felt as if you new the characters personally.  This book showed how hard life was during this time period and what work was like.
The ending in this book was saddening.  If it were up to me, I would not of had George kill Lennie.  Instead of George killing him I would have made it so that George took Lennie and went off and got their own land and lived happily ever after but this was not the case.  If that were to happen it would not show just how hard life was back in these times.
This was one of my favorite books of all times.  I would gladly recommend it to anyone looking for a good book.
